26th January 2017 - Teltronic, part of the Sepura Group, has successfully completed integration of its TETRA solution with Siemens' Train Sentinel Positive Train Control (PTC) system, further evidencing the technical viability of TETRA for safe and efficient communications in the railway signalling environment.

Extensive tests performed at Siemens facilities in Madrid showed that TETRA met all the required quality of service parameters, guaranteeing correct performance of the signalling application.

The integrated system forms part of a signalling and telecommunications solution for the Moatize-Nacala Corridor project - a joint venture between Mozambique's state railway and Brazilian mining firm Vale, which has seen the creation of 912km freight line to facilitate the transportation of coal from the Moatize mine to the port of Nacala.

As well as improving the safety, capacity and reliability of coal transportation, the solution - comprising Sepura's Nebula infrastructure, EN 50155 onboard equipment and a control centre application - provides a cost-effective alternative for any operator utilising long-distance communications networks to control PTC-enabled trains.

TETRA offers voice, operational data and PTC signalling data over a single infrastructure, allowing transport operators to tackle their operational challenges with a secure, cost-efficient solution. TETRA also provides cost savings due to spectral efficiency and the operational frequency bands used.

"This success comes hot on the heels of the recent certification of our TETRA solution for use with Siemens' European Train Control System (ETCS Level 2) application," said Felipe Sanjuan Pasamar, Sepura's Business Development Director for Transport.

"Our ongoing collaboration with Siemens - begun with the master agreement signed in 2011, and proven over numerous projects worldwide - continues to leverage the power of TETRA to reduce costs and increase choice for the railway transportation sector, providing operators with secure, efficient communications, even across significant distances."
