Siemens announced Tuesday that it has signed a framework agreement with Railpool, a German rolling stock leasing specialist, for the acquisition of up to 250 Vectron locomotives.

The locomotives ordered, which will be authorized to operate in 16 European countries, will develop a maximum power of 6.4 megawatts and reach speeds of up to 230 km/h, according to Siemens Mobility, its rail subsidiary.

To date, Siemens Mobility says it has sold more than 2,400 Vectron locomotives to 96 customers in 16 countries.
