The Red Dot Award marks the second design prize awarded to the SIROLaser Blue from Dentsply Sirona Instruments this year. The award ceremony took place in July in Essen (Germany). The SIROLaser Blue allows dental procedures to be performed with minimal bleeding and pain.

Following the iF Design Award, the SIROLaser Blue handpiece has now also been awarded the Red Dot Award.

Bensheim/Salzburg. The SIROLaser Blue handpiece has once again won over international design experts. It was presented the Red Dot Award in the category 'Life Science and Medicine' for, according to the jury, 'the elegant feel of its flowing, elongated shape and stainless steel finish.' This is the second design prize this year for the Dentsply Sirona Instruments laser for surgical dentistry. In February, the SIROLaser Blue handpiece was presented with the iF Design Award.

The Red Dot Award is an internationally recognized quality seal that has been awarded to products, design concepts and communication designs since 1954. This year, 41 jury members (made up of independent designers), design professors and specialist journalists assessed a record number of 5,214 products from 57 nations in 31 categories. Only the products with exceptional design quality were presented with this highly-coveted award. The award ceremony was held on July 4, 2016, at the Red Dot Gala in the Aalto Theater in Essen, Germany.

The SIROLaser Blue makes treatment less painful for patients, so less to no local anesthetic is needed. Since the procedure is gentle to tissue, wound pain and scar formation are reduced. The blue light of the Sirona SIROLaser Blue, with a wavelength of 445 nanometers, is absorbed by hemoglobin around 100 times better than infrared light. For soft tissue surgery, this means fast, precise and atraumatic incisions. In addition to root canal and periodontology treatment, SIROLaser Blue can also be used to treat aphthous ulcers, herpes and for low level laser treatments (LLLT).
