On Dec. 1, Standard Insurance Company (“The Standard”) will help kick off #OregoniansGive, Oregon’s statewide #GivingTuesday movement, through $15,000 in donations to six Oregon nonprofits, a special event at OMSI and social media campaign with employees and local nonprofits.

It all starts with The Standard donating $2,500 to six Oregon nonprofits: Clackamas Service Center, Community Action, Portland Rescue Mission, Returning Veterans Project, Store to Door and Urban Gleaners.

In addition to the donations, The Standard will join #OregoniansGive in launching the inaugural statewide UNSelfie: #GivingTuesday campaign. As implied by its name, participants are encouraged to take photos holding paper signs that indicate the causes they support, redirecting the focus of a selfie onto nonprofits and volunteers in the community.

The Portland metro campaign will kick off at an event on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. at OMSI in Portland. Free and open to all, everyone will have the opportunity to simultaneously post their photos to their respective social media channels at 8 a.m. Coffee and donuts will be provided and every attendee will receive a free OMSI pass.

“Our participation in #OregoniansGive and #GivingTuesday celebrates the idea that every individual and organization can make a difference, whether through financial donations or volunteerism,” said Bob Speltz, senior director of Public Affairs at The Standard. “We anticipate that the collective energy of the nonprofit professionals, civic leaders, donors and volunteers attending the event will help make #OregoniansGive a success.”

The #OregoniansGive campaign seeks to raise $3.9 million for nonprofits on Dec. 1 — a dollar for every Oregonian.

Employees of The Standard are able to wear jeans and their company t-shirts to work on #GivingTuesday and are also being encouraged to take UNselfies and post them to social media with the tags #TheStandardGives #UNselfie #GivingTuesday and #OregoniansGive.
