Styles&Wood Celebrates Volunteers' Week

At Styles&Wood people are at the heart of everything we do, whether this is our teams across our projects or within the communities we operate. We've embedded corporate responsibility across our companies through our Styles&Wood in the Community (SWiTC) initiative. Working alongside our local communities we organise fundraising activities, events and encourage our employees to take part in volunteering days.

To mark Volunteers' Week, Styles&Wood colleagues from our Head office in Sale, Manchester, donated their time to support two local charities, Maggie's and Lifeshare.

A team of green fingered colleagues visited Maggie's, a charity who provide free emotional and social support to people with cancer, where they spent the day tidying up their outside garden space.

Everyone who took part had a great time, Simon Garry, Business Systems Analyst, said 'It was nice to do something, even as little as gardening, that would make the people who access Maggie's smile or feel a bit better about their day.'

Abigail Antrobus, HR Adviser, said 'Maggie's is such a fantastic organisation, I hope to do more volunteering in my own time with them in the future.'

We also received a message of thanks from Ruth Tobi, Centre Fundraising Organiser at Maggie's Manchester,

'Maggie's Manchester was delighted to host volunteers from Styles&Wood who came to help out in our garden. They were able to achieve such a huge amount on what was a very warm day! It's fantastic to have this support and so invaluable to Maggie's Manchester. Thank you for all your hard work!'

Elsewhere, two colleagues donated their time to support Lifeshare, who provide support and information to vulnerable and homeless people across Manchester. Tasks included organising and sorting through donations in their clothes and food store, some of which had been donated from other team members at Styles&Wood.

Tara Hook, HR Adviser, commented 'I really enjoyed getting involved and helping out. It opened my eyes to those less fortunate, the struggle of homelessness, and what we can do to help.'

Volunteers' Week is an annual event which takes place 1st to 7th June to celebrate the difference volunteers make to communities across the country.
