Sumitomo Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President, Executive Officer and CEO: Shingo Ueno) is pleased to announce that the For the first time, we sponsored 'Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2024,' an LGBTQ+-related event that celebrates the diversity of people in Japan.
In addition to exhibiting a booth, approximately 120 people, including employees, their families, and friends, participated in the parade.
The Sumitomo Corporation Group positions Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) as a 'source of value creation, innovation, and competitiveness,' and believes in We are working to create an environment where each individual can maximize their abilities and continue to create new value, regardless of values.
Regarding LGBTQ+, in addition to conducting awareness-raising activities such as in-house training so that each employee has the correct knowledge to understand and accept LGBTQ+ people, we are also working on creating guidelines, establishing a consultation desk, allowing the use of nicknames, and promoting same-sex people. We are promoting various environmental improvements, such as making benefits and personnel systems available to partners. In 2023, our comprehensive efforts were evaluated, and we received the highest rating of 'Gold' in the PRIDE Index 2023, an evaluation index for LGBTQ+ initiatives in the workplace developed by work with Pride, a general incorporated association. .
Our sponsorship of this event is in support of Tokyo Rainbow Pride's aim of 'aiming to create a society where everyone can live their lives in their own way.' At the exhibition booth, employees wore original T-shirts with our corporate message, 'Enriching lives and the world,' which aims to enrich the lives of society and people around the world. We held a project in which visitors were asked to write down what they expect from Sumitomo Corporation toward the future of Sumitomo Corporation, and through interaction with visitors, it was an opportunity to experience a lot of diversity.
Sumitomo Corporation is a diversified group organized around 7 areas of activity:
- retail distribution of consumer goods (24.4% of net sales): food products, apparel and accessories, pharmaceuticals, building materials, household and decorative items, etc. The group is also developing a real estate business;
