SHKP will provide 25 medical disinfection robots to public hospitals and clinics

Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) is giving its full support to Hong Kong's fight against the worsening pandemic. On top of the three measures made public last week, today SHKP announced five major initiatives to help contain the coronavirus. The Group is lending for free two pieces of land to the government to build temporary isolation and treatment facilities. The two sites have a combined area of 14 hectares. In addition, three commercial premises of the Group will provide venues for community vaccination. The Group will also donate materials worth more than HK$15 million to support frontline anti-pandemic workers, the underprivileged and the Group's employees.

SHKP Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok said: "All sectors of society should join hands to combat the fifth wave of infections. SHKP has continued to fully support the government to curb the pandemic. With the great assistance and care of the country and the concerted efforts of the community, Hong Kong would be able to quickly overcome the pandemic."

1. Lending for free two sites as isolation and treatment facilities

In the race against the pandemic, every second counts. SHKP swiftly identified two sites with a combined site area of 14 hectares for the government to build temporary isolation and treatment facilities to help alleviate the immense pressure on the public healthcare system as soon as possible. One site is in Tam Mei, Yuen Long (10 hectares) and the other is the former San Tin Shopping City (four hectares), jointly owned by SHKP and Henderson Land Development Company Limited. The Tam Mei site is flat and has road access, as it sits right next to Castle Peak Road. It also has power supply and can be easily connected to the government's water supply and sewage systems. Since both sites have relatively good infrastructure, works could start immediately. After discussion with the authorities, the two plots were handed over to the government yesterday.

2. Providing places at three commercial premises as venues for community vaccination

SHKP believes that vaccination is the key to combating the pandemic. The Group is discussing with the government the provision of spaces in its office and mall premises to set up three additional venues for community vaccination. The premises, located in Yuen Long, Kwun Tong and North District, are all readily accessible by MTR to help boost vaccination rates of the elderly and children. The government will soon announce details of the arrangements.

3. Providing 400,000 COVID-19 rapid test kits to frontline anti-pandemic workers, the underprivileged and the Group's employees

SHKP quickly sourced 400,000 rapid antigen test kits, 100,000 of which will be given to grassroots frontline workers and their families through the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link, and the Hong Kong United Youth Association. The beneficiaries will include cleaners and security staff who have to work during the pandemic, and people living in 'three-nil' buildings (that is, buildings that do not have owners' corporations or any form of residents' organisations, or do not engage property management companies). Another 100,000 kits will be offered to the Hong Kong Police Force to support their anti-pandemic efforts. The remaining 200,000 will be given to the Group's employees to help them monitor their health.

4. Distributing 10,000 caring kits

SHKP will donate 10,000 caring kits, 5,000 of which to people with a pressing need for related supplies, including staff and residents of elderly care homes and grassroots families under home quarantine. The packs contain rapid antigen test kits, face masks, disinfection products and daily supplies. The other 5,000 kits filled with different items will be offered to frontline healthcare workers.

5. Providing 25 medical-grade disinfection robots to the Hospital Authority

SHKP will donate 25 medical disinfection robots to public hospitals and clinics. The robots feature two disinfection modes - ultraviolet rays and spray - allowing them to effectively kill the coronavirus in a large area and help prevent the spread of the virus in hospitals. This helps provide a safe environment for healthcare workers and patients and enhances the efficiency of disinfection in these premises.

Last week, SHKP announced a series of anti-pandemic initiatives. To support the Community Isolation Facility Hotel Scheme, the Group will provide more than 1,000 rooms in two hotels for isolation purposes. Videos with anti-pandemic messages are being played in various premises and a slogan to rally territory-wide support in the fight against the pandemic is being displayed on the façade of the International Commerce Centre.

The Group firmly believes that with city-wide efforts and the support of the Central Government, Hong Kong will beat the pandemic, enabling the local economy to recover as soon as possible.
