Middlesex University previewed its newest teaching facilities to assembled partners and contractors at a celebration event on the 5 September 2016. The £18 million Ritterman building on the University's campus in Hendon, north London successfully completed on budget and schedule ahead of the 2016/2017 academic year.

The Ritterman Building, which was developed over three years in partnership with 12 contractors across multiple sectors, was officially handed over to the University on 2 August ahead of today's event marking the successful collaboration and including tours of the cutting-edge facilities.

The building boasts a number of innovations, including a 110 square metre living wall, and opens up 3,300 square metres of additional teaching space for the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, with specialist areas including state-of-the-art science labs and a large dance studio.

It is named after the University's Chancellor, Dame Janet Ritterman, a distinguished academic and musician with a global reputation for championing the arts.

Middlesex University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Blackman, said: 'The Ritterman Building means that Middlesex continues to provide our students with a world-class learning environment equipped with the latest facilities and technology.

'The University is committed to an outstanding student experience. Since 2000 alone we have invested over £200million into Hendon to create one of the best campuses in London and continue our reputation among employers for graduates taught in industry-standard settings with the skills they need.

'Given that these magnificent new facilities will be for creative arts as well as science students, it is fitting that this building is named after Middlesex University's Chancellor, Dame Janet Ritterman, who has done so much to champion the arts and our university.'

The Ritterman Building has an environmentally-friendly, bio-diverse green living roof, solar panels to generate electricity and energy-efficient lighting controls. Its living wall has more than 3,500 plants which are in place to save and recycle water.

The Ritterman Building will be officially opened in January 2017.
