Initial Funding of $17.6 Million Provides Equipment and Field Services Support for Wireless Point-to-Point Link-Delta (WPPL-D) Solutions

ANNAPOLIS, MD, Sep 06, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today announced that it was named the sole awardee of a delivery order with a potential value of $139.8 million through July 2012. This new order provides Wireless Point to Point Link (WPPL) systems, field support engineers who are pre-positioned to provide support and maintenance, associated in-theater programs, and ancillary equipment.

TCS has received initial funding of $17.6 million to provide the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) hardware and field services support to assist military personnel in the setup, configuration, alignment, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and upgrades of existing WPPL-D systems at various locations. The U.S. Army Project Manager for the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (PM WIN-T) Commercial Satellite Terminal Program (CSTP) is managing these procurements through the Army's $5 billion World-Wide Satellite Systems (WWSS) contract vehicle.

The TCS WPPL-D system provides secure point-to-point and point-to-multipoint, line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight transmission of voice, video, and data communications. WPPL enables the USMC to close the gap on the "last digital mile," pushing data services to the network edge using a low-cost alternative to more-expensive beyond-line-of-sight satellite communications.

"In today's theater of operation, information is often the most powerful weapon at our warfighters' disposal," stated Michael Bristol, senior vice president and general manager of government solutions at TCS. "TCS supports WPPL-D with the most professional resources, proven processes, and tested equipment to continue backing of the U.S. Marine Corps' mission."

TCS integrated global support services harness more than 20 years experience serving Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) customers in CONUS, OCONUS and war zones. Combining satellite, wireless, and advanced network engineering services with in-theater facilities and staff, TCS ILS quickly and cost-effectively supplements the military's support requirements in the installation and maintenance of communications networks around the globe.

TCS has established a proven track record for more than two decades as a provider of trusted communication technology solutions to solve the government's toughest technical challenges, under conditions that demand the highest level of reliability, availability and security. To ensure mission continuity, TCS offers deployable highly-secure communications solutions and complete end-to-end managed services for converged (IP-based) voice, video and data solutions to organizations requiring seamless and secure connectivity between fixed sites and remote operations.
