International Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Telekom Slovenije and Samsung have been supporting Europa Donna association for the past 15 years in raising breast cancer awareness with two "pink" mobile phones and a EUR 10,000 donation

October is the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in Slovenia Europa Donna - the Slovenian branch of the association for fighting breast cancer that brings together more than 3,200 members - has been at the forefront of activities for the past 25 years. For the 15th year in a row Telekom Slovenije and Samsung are helping the association raise awareness with a donation of EUR 10,000 and by launching two special "pink" phones.

In order to make this year's two "pink" phones accessible to as many users as possible, they are both available in the special "Modri Fon" promotion at a reduced promotional price. With a 24-month contract, the Samsung Galaxy A13 2022 is available in 24 instalments from EUR 5.19, while the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G 128 GB is available in 24 instalments from EUR 12.92.

Europa Donna has been striving for breast cancer and uterine cancer patients to receive comprehensive and effective treatment, appropriate rehabilitation and a psychosocial support for both patients and their families, while also raising public awareness on the importance of a healthy lifestyle, regular monthly self-checks and early cancer detection.

Europa Donna's activities address the broadest group of women and their families, raising awareness on the importance of prevention. During this year's Pink October Tanja Španić, the president of the Europa Donna Slovenia association pointed out that "with the aim of reaching as many people as possible, we have been emphasising the importance of prevention and early detection for many years. Breast cancer is highly treatable when detected early enough, and regular monthly self-checks and responding to DORA programme's breast-screening invitations significantly contribute to that. On the other hand, care for a healthy lifestyle is also important, as numerous studies point to a correlation between a healthy lifestyle and lower risk for developing breast cancer. Regular physical activity, a healthy and balanced diet and maintaining suitable weight are three simple, yet essential decisions for long-lasting health."

In Slovenia, much like in many other developed countries, breast cancer is the most common cancer for women, as every fifth case of cancer is breast cancer. In Slovenia 19,000 women are being treated or have been treated for breast cancer. However, breast cancer is not solely a women's disease, as 2 percent of patients are men.

The survival rates for women diagnosed with cancer are increasing; the five-year survival of women who became ill in the 2014-2019 period stands at 87.3%. Breast cancer is treatable when detected early enough, and users can utilise the Breast Test mobile app, which comes with visual instructions for correct breast self-checks, a period calendar and a monthly reminder, kindly alerting thm to take 3 minutes for a breast self-check. If they detect any changes, it is very important to consult a doctor.
