On Monday, Thales announced the successful launch of the Satria ultra-high-speed telecommunications satellite, designed to bridge the digital divide in Indonesia.
The spacecraft was successfully launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Cape Canaveral launch base (Florida).
With a capacity of 150 gigabits per second, the device is intended to provide high-speed Internet access to thousands of islands in the Indonesian archipelago.
In particular, the device aims to connect hundreds of thousands of areas, including thousands of schools, hospitals and public buildings, as well as regional government sites not connected by existing satellite or terrestrial infrastructures.
Thales Alenia Space, the joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), was contracted by the Satelit Nusantara Tiga (SNT) consortium to manufacture the satellite on behalf of the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo).
