Los Angeles, Dec 9 (EFE).- "Marriage Story," directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, emerged Monday as the big favorite in the 77th Golden Globes, garnering six nominations, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) said.

"The Irishman," directed by Martin Scorsese, and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," directed by Quentin Tarantino, got five nominations each.

"Chernobyl," "The Crown" and "Creedme" received four nominations each, the HFPA said.

Cynthia Erivo ("Harriet"); Scarlett Johansson ("Marriage Story"); Saoirse Ronan ("Little Women"); Charlize Theron ("Bombshell"); and Renee Zellweger ("Judy") were nominated for the Golden Globe in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama.

In the category Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture- Drama, Christian Bale ("Ford v Ferrari"); Antonio Banderas ("Pain and Glory"); Adam Driver ("Marriage Story"); Joaquin Phoenix ("Joker"); and Jonathan Pryce ("The Two Popes") were nominated.

Jennifer Lopez was nominated in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for "Hustlers" and is competing against Kathy Bates ("Richard Jewell"); Annette Bening ("The Report"); Laura Dern ("Marriage Story"); and Margot Robbie ("Bombshell").

In the category Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture, Tom Hanks ("A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood"); Anthony Hopkins ("The Two Popes"); Al Pacino ("The Irishman"); Joe Pesci ("The Irishman"); and Brad Pitt ("Once Upon a Time in Hollywood") were nominated.

Bong Joon Ho ("Parasite"); Sam Mendes ("1917"); Todd Phillips ("Joker"); Martin Scorsese ("The Irishman"); and Quentin Tarantino ("Once Upon a Time in Hollywood") were nominated for Best Director - Motion Picture.

Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's "Dolor y Gloria" (Pain and Glory) was nominated in the Best Motion Picture Foreign Language category and will compete with "The Farewell" (USA); Les Miserables (France); "Parasite" (South Korea); and "Portraait Of a Lady on Fire (France).

In the category Best Television Series - Drama, "Big Little Lies," "The Crown," "Killing Eve," "The Morning Show" and "Succession" garnered nominations.

"Chernobyl," "Catch-22," "Fosse/Verdon," "Us," "The Loudest Voice" and "Unbelievable" were nominated for Golden Globes in the Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television category.

The big surprise is that "Game of Thrones" did not receive a nomination in the Best Television Series - Drama category after winning a record number of Emmy Awards during its eight-season run.

Despite its huge following and critical acclaim, "Game of Thrones" will go down as having never won the big prize at the Golden Globes.

In the Best Original Song - Motion Picture category, "Beautiful Ghosts" ("Cats"); "I'm Gonna Love Me Again" ("Rocketman"); "Into the Unknown" ("Frozen 2"); "Spirit" ("The Lion King"); and "Stand Up" ("Harriet") received nominations. EFE
