Toronto-Dominion Bank has designated Alan MacGibbon to succeed Brian Levitt as chairman of the banking giant, effective Feb. 1.

Toronto-Dominion on Thursday said Levitt, who joined its board in 2008 and has been chairman since 2011, will retire from the board following the Toronto bank's annual shareholder meeting in April.

MacGibbon, a former managing partner and chief executive of Deloitte LLP (Canada), has been an independent Toronto-Dominion board member since 2014 and chairman of the board's audit committee since 2016.
