Turbo Power Systems (TPS) have received a highly commended certificate at The Railway Industry Innovation Awards 2017 for the Environment Category. The award was for the innovative Mark 3 static converters developed in collaboration with Chiltern Railways.

We have supplied an energy efficient, lightweight and cost-effective power electronic solution to service all on-board electronics, HVAC and to charge batteries. The Mark 3 static converters allow potential savings of over £1 million over three years to the operator as opposed to using conventional motor alternators. The static converters also have the potential to reduce the carbon footprint.

TPS's solution provides efficient on-board electrical power derived from highly variable single-phase input from the overhead supply. This solution ultimately leads to improved performance and a high level of comfort for passengers. Some of the key benefits to rail operators include: 15% efficiency improvement, 4kW energy saved per journey and optimised through life cost.

The Railway Industry Innovation Award ceremony has been held on 23rd June 2017 at Paddington Hilton, London. Other categories included: 'Passenger experience', 'Cross-industry partnership', 'Operations and performance', 'Engineering', 'Safety', 'Small-scale project' and 'Major project'. This is the partner event to the Railway Industry Association's innovation conference and its aim is to celebrate innovation and great achievements in the industry.
