Turkey's sovereign wealth fund (SWF), namely the Turkey Wealth Fund (TWF/TVF), is reportedly in preliminary talks with Akbank T.A.S. (IBSE:AKBNK), Turkiye Garanti Bankasi A.S. (IBSE:GARAN) and Türkiye Is Bankasi A.S. (IBSE:ISCTR) to obtain a loan to acquire a 55% stake in Türk Telekomünikasyon Anonim Sirketi (IBSE:TTKOM). The telco is owned by the three banks in question. TVF is chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The talks were disclosed by some unnamed people familiar with the matter who spoke to Bloomberg on January 28. The privatisation of Turk Telekom is known as one of the infamous sell-offs conducted by Erdogan's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
