UnitedHealth Group, in its latest update on a cyberattack that has crippled its Change Healthcare business, said it has advanced more than $2 billion to healthcare providers affected by the disruption.

The company said it is expanding financial assistance to affected providers.

UnitedHealth said its Change Healthcare unit is starting to resume some services. Change Healthcare on Monday will begin releasing medical claims preparation software, which UnitedHealth said is an important step in the resumption of services.

The ransomware attack on Change Healthcare has halted billions in medical payments and disrupted healthcare providers' abilities to receive claims.

"We continue to make significant progress in restoring the services impacted by this cyberattack," UnitedHealth Chief Executive Andrew Witty said. "We know this has been an enormous challenge for health care providers and we encourage any in need to contact us."
