An independent report, conducted by Verve Partners Research and commissioned by Verifone for MoneyConf, shows that more than a quarter (29 percent) of U.K. small and medium businesses now give their customers the option to pay using an app in store - and microbusinesses are beginning to follow suit.

A self-checkout driven by a mobile payments system coupled with a mobile app is being greeted with scepticism in the UK. This is largely down to fears of data security - 52% are sufficiently concerned that they would rather queue up than use an app.

Although they are only just reaching adulthood, Generation Z are already using digital banking technology. And as this report - drawing on a survey of 2500 16 to 18 year olds on their financial habits - demonstrates, in terms of mobile payments usage, they are already outpacing Millennials.
