Wells Fargo has appointed Doug Braunstein, a former chief financial officer for JPMorgan Chase, its next vice chairman.

The bank said Tuesday that Braunstein will work on growing Wells Fargo's corporate finance and advisory businesses and report to Chief Executive Charlie Scharf.

Braunstein comes to Wells Fargo after more than 35 years in the banking industry, including nearly two decades at JPMorgan in which he had stints as chief financial officer, vice chairman and as the global head of multiple different divisions.

He also previously served as interim chief executive of Talkspace and on the boards of several public companies, including Cantaloupe, Cardtronics and Eagle Pharmaceuticals.

Braunstein succeeds Tom Nides, the former U.S. Ambassador to Israel who took over as Wells Fargo's vice chairman last September only to step down a month later to return his focus to events unfolding in Israel and the Middle East.
