March 10, 2015, Ahmedabad:Ahmedabad is the first major stop for this unique aircraft after it embarked from Abu Dhabi on March 9, 2015. It will also make a pit stop in the historical city of Varanasi. ABB, technology partner and a key global sponsor of Solar Impulse 2, wishes this pioneering project a safe journey and looks forward to its landing in Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad is the largest city in Gujarat, India's highest solar power generating state. It contributes close to a third of the nation's total solar capacity. The state also holds the distinction of a few innovative and biggest solar projects of its kind in the world.

"We wish Solar Impulse 2 a safe flight and look forward to welcoming it to India. India is poised for its next level of growth and renewable energy, led by solar, will be a key factor to determine its pace. ABB India is at the forefront of the drive for clean energy in the country and is well equipped to provide for its evolving requirements," said Bazmi Husain, Managing Director, ABB India. The partnership between ABB and Solar Impulse is a complementary one - Solar Impulse dreams big and promotes cutting edge technologies and ABB builds on these dreams to make them accessible for mass application.

ABB is the world's second-largest supplier of solar inverters, one of the largest suppliers to the wind-power industry and a leader in integrating renewables efficiently and reliably into power grids. In India, ABB recently rolled out cumulative solar inverter capacity of 1GW (India's total inverter capacity is 3 GW) and also commenced manufacturing of wind converters, making it the only company to do so in the country.

ABB India successfully commissioned a 50 MW solar power plant in less than seven months, executed the world's largest single rooftop solar installation in Punjab and is a part of the world's longest canal top solar project in Gujarat. ABB India's comprehensive solar value proposition and proven expertise thus makes it a bankable partner for the solar industry.

ABB has been making in India for over five decades. Global technology leadership complemented with competent indigenization and reliable local service, positions ABB India well to contribute significantly to India's growth plans, especially in its renewable ambitions.
