Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport organized today, on 12 November 2015 an exercise called 'The announcement of sabotage at the airport.' Exercise participants were the competent services of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia.

The aim of the exercise was the check of the readiness of the competent services to act in emergency situations. Representatives of the Civil Aviation Directorate and of the airlines attended the exercise as observers.

In accordance with domestic and international regulations, Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport regularly holds exercises at certain intervals. Previous exercise was held in June this year with the theme 'The announcement of sabotage in the bonded cargo warehouse'.

In order to better prepare for the upcoming long-haul traffic of the national carrier, Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has taken a number of steps to this end.

Acting General Director, Saša Vlaisavljević, said on this occasion:

'Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is oriented and working in full capacity to be a good logistics to our national airline due to the start of long-haul traffic. The acquisition of world's most advanced equipment in the field of security is in due course, and procurement has been initiated for an additional firefighting vehicle with a telescopic boom for easier and faster extinguishing spilled fuel fire and piercer which pierces aircraft skin fighting a fire in the interior of the aircraft. With this vehicle Airport Nikola Tesla will meet the requirements for fire category 8 and 9, out of 10, which is one of the conditions for landing of wide-body aircraft, that is, operation of overseas flights'.

Additional information

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport this year acquired two, and in the meantime carried out the procedure for the procurement of another 7 X-ray units with the possibility of detection of explosives in liquids in accordance with international standards that came into force. These are modern equipment that will be used for screening hand baggage in waiting rooms, i.e. gates. Along with previously acquired 9 X-ray units with this possibility, in all waiting rooms will be state of the art equipment for inspection of hand luggage. Also is carried out the procedure for procurement of another X-ray device for screening smaller cargo and mail. Also is purchased STI software for operators training who carry out screening of baggage, cargo and mail.

This week will be supplied 3 portable detector of explosive in liquids. In accordance with the newly adopted National Program for aviation security of October this year and the requirements resulting from it, Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport initiated procurement of 18 explosive trace detectors (ETD) to be used as an additional measure for screening in waiting rooms.

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport in constantly working to improve the quality of its services provided to passengers, airlines and other associates-partners, especially taking care that the service provided is of high quality, efficient and in compliance with all safety standards and procedures.
