Aetna was awarded the National Association of Counties (NACo) Award for Corporate Excellence during ceremonies at NACo's 2015 Legislative Conference in February in Washington, D.C. Cain Hayes, president of Government Sector and Labor for Aetna, received the award on behalf of the company.

The NACo Award for Corporate Excellence is presented to companies that have demonstrated a long-standing and ongoing commitment to counties and NACo. Aetna was recognized for its work with NACo to develop strategies for managing the health and well-being of county employees and retirees.

"On behalf of all employees at Aetna, we thank NACo for recognizing and acknowledging Aetna's passion for excellence," said Hayes. "Knowing the past recipients of this award, we are honored to be part of this esteemed group."

Aetna has worked with NACo to provide innovative solutions for county government health benefit plans that help employees and retirees live healthier lives while controlling health care costs. Specifically in Bexar County, Texas, a wellness program that initially focused on treating chronic conditions has evolved to emphasize the prevention of such conditions by giving employees a reduction in their premiums if they demonstrate that they are taking actionable preventive measures to improve their health.

"We appreciate Aetna's commitment to empowering counties through its collaboration with NACo," said NACo executive director Matthew Chase. "We applaud Aetna for its continued support and helping to build healthy, safe and vibrant communities across the country."

Aetna has demonstrated its sustained commitment to NACo by serving as a NACo Premier Member and becoming the first health insurer to join NACo as a Healthy Counties Sponsor. It has worked with NACo to develop valuable webinars, workshops and roundtable discussion on cost-effective ways of providing optimal health care services to member counties.
