AMP Capital has announced Japanese retailer UNIQLO will open its first north side Sydney store at Macquarie Centre when the final stage of the centre's redevelopment is complete in October.

With an additional four international high street fashion brands yet to be announced, Macquarie Centre will have the largest number of international high-street fashion stores of any Australian shopping centre.

The UNIQLO store, which will be the second outlet for the brand in Sydney, will stretch across approximately 1,500 square metres and will feature the retailer's full range of apparel. UNIQLO will also join domestic department stores Myer and David Jones as part of a two-floor fashion galleria that will feature a total of 130 specialty stores featuring Australian and international designers.

AMP Capital Shopping Centres Managing Director Bryan Hynes said the quality of the international retailers coming to Macquarie Centre confirms the strength of the $440 million redevelopment, which will transform the area's retail offering and customer experience.

Mr Hynes said: "The centre will include a number of international, large-format, fashion brands as well as established local brands, aspirational fashion retailers, unique leisure and lifestyle retailers, and the best fresh food offering in the area.

"For such an established international brand to choose Macquarie Centre as the destination for one of its first stores in Australia reinforces our belief in the strong growth in the Ryde region and the demand for a world-class shopping destination in Sydney's north."

With a total trade area of 337,770 people, expected to unleash $6 billion in retail spending by 2021, the north-west corridor is considered the new capital of household wealth in Sydney and, by the end of the year, the area will have a new-look shopping centre to match.

Upon completion the redeveloped Macquarie Centre will be the largest suburban shopping centre in New South Wales, with 138,500 square metres of floor space. The project is part of AMP Capital Shopping Centres' $2.8 billion development pipeline, which includes major redevelopments underway at Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast and Perth's Ocean Keys, and proposed at Garden City, Booragoon and Karrinyup shopping centres also in Perth.

Macquarie Centre is managed by AMP Capital and owned by the AMP Capital Shopping Centre Fund (ASCF), the Australian Core Property Portfolio (ACPP) and the AMP Capital Retail Trust.
