On Friday 12 June, AMP is holding a one-day summit to explore myths about growing old.

Myth 1: The "miracle of longevity" has created a national and global economic crisis with skyrocketing spending on pensions and healthcare. Speakers include AMP's Shane Oliver, the Grattan Institute's John Daley and RiceWarner's Steve Freeborn.

Myth 2: Older workers are less productive and working longer prevents younger workers from entering the workforce. Speakers include Age and Disability Commissioner Susan Ryan, positive ageing advocate Everald Compton and Philip Taylor from Monash University.

Myth 3: Declining health limits people's capacity to work at older ages, and healthcare costs are a major burden to society. Speakers include physician and writer Karen Hitchcock, CEPAR's John Piggot and Michael O'Neill from National Seniors.

Myth 4: Mature workers aren't able to adapt to changes and new technology and are less innovative than younger workers. Speakers include encore.org's Betsy Werley and Thomas Kamber from Older Adults Technology Services (OATS).
