For the seventh consecutive year Anthem, Inc. has earned the 2016 Military Friendly® Employer and Military Spouse Friendly Employer designation by Victory Media publisher of G.I. Jobs® and Military Spouse. The company ranked 83 on this year’s list.

Companies vying for a spot on the coveted list have completed a data-driven survey based on various criteria including a benchmark score across key programs and policies, such as the strength of the company military recruiting efforts, percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs for veterans and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.

“Anthem is honored to be recognized by Victory Media as a Military Friendly® Employer for the seventh consecutive year. This reflects our serious and sustained commitment to attracting, developing and retaining those who have served our country as members of the military,” said Tracy Edmonds, chief diversity officer at Anthem, Inc. “Veterans embody the spirit of service that is at the core of our corporate values and through their work at Anthem they continue to make a difference in the lives of our customers and communities.”

Further reinforcing Anthem’s commitment to a military friendly workplace are the Veterans of Anthem (VOA) Associate Resource Group. With nearly 300 associates actively involved, the group collaborates with the company’s talent acquisition team on career events and recruitment fairs. In addition, they provide valuable insight to managers and company leaders to educate them about the unique aspects of attracting and employing military veterans and military families. Consistent with their military code of supporting fellow troops, VOA members can be found in their local communities conducting food drives or holding care package drives during the holidays to support Anthem associates and their immediate family members who are deployed in active duty.

Additionally, Anthem is an active member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of major corporations that have jointly committed to hiring 100,000 transitioning service members and military veterans by 2020.

Now in its 13th year, Military Friendly® Employers is the premier resource for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment. Each year, companies taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Advisory Board consisting of leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. A full list of board members can be found at MilitaryFriendly.com/advisory-board.

“Companies that have earned the 2016 Military Friendly® Employer award have exceptionally strong hiring programs and meaningful careers for transitioning service members and spouses,” said Daniel Nichols, Chief Product Officer of Victory Media and Navy Reserve veteran. “Our Military Friendly® Employers are moving the needle beyond answering ‘why hire military’—they are truly aligning their jobs and recruiting efforts with Military Friendly® educators to translate military competencies into civilian jobs.”
