AP Moller-Maersk is the world's leading maritime transport company. Net sales (including intragroup) break down by activity as follows:
- maritime freight transport (62.3%): at the end of 2012, owned a fleet of over 607 vessels (container vessels, tugs, supply vessels, gas carriers, and other specialized transporters). The group also operates oil drilling platforms and floating production units, and offers port and logistical services;
- exploration and production of petroleum and gas (18.1%): activities conducted primarily in the North Sea (257 million barrels produced in 2012), in Qatar, Algeria, Great Britain and Kazakhstan;
- retail distribution (15.2%; Dansk Supermarked): owns supermarkets under the names Bilka, Fotex, and Netto located in Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and Sweden;
- other (4.4%): primarily activities related to shipyard construction, factory management (plastic and rubber products), and business holdings.
Net sales break down geographically as follows: Denmark (19.9%), the United States (9.4%), Qatar (7.3%), the United Kingdom (5%), Singapore (0.6%) and other (57.8%).
