We are proud to announce that Expansión CEO magazine has ranked ArcelorMittal Mexico's sustainability strategy seventh out of a total of 100 Mexican companies.

Expansión CEO magazine published its fourth annual ranking of Mexico's top 'responsible companies' in its November 2017 issue. The ranking recognises companies which have demonstrated successful social responsibility strategies based on the triple bottom line: environmental, social and economic impact.

The magazine has recognised the value of ArcelorMittal Mexico's sustainability strategy, as well as the actions it took to care for the environment, to award it a debut ranking in the top ten - an incredibly impressive performance.

For ArcelorMittal Mexico, the communities where it operates are not only part of its environment, but also represent an important part of its management strategy. Each year it implements a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme to meet its commitment to improving the quality of life for the communities that surround it and the people who, in one way or another, participate in its value chain.

In delivering its commitments to decrease its environmental impact, it has improved both its water recycling rates and decreased its CO2 emissions:

  • It has increased its water recycling and reuse rates, which in 2016 reached 13.5 million m3, representing an increase of 2.2 million m3 over 2015 levels.
  • By replacing oil with natural gas as the main source of energy in its operations, it reduced its CO2 emissions by more than 115,000 tonnes a year, or 23% reduction making ArcelorMittal Mexico an increasingly responsible energy user that helps create a lower carbon future.
  • Through its participation in the North American Energy Management Pilot Program, it has installed a system to analyze and manage its energy use, to further improve its performance to meet the ISO 50001 energy management standard.

Víctor M. Cairo, CEO ArcelorMittal Mexico says, 'We are proud to have been recognised by Expansión, because it reaffirms our commitment to be a responsible and sustainable corporate citizen. It also demonstrates we are an active and welcomed member in the community, which means supporting economic development while protecting local culture and the environment. I'd like to thank all those who collaborated in the initiatives we have implemented throughout the year, for which we have been acknowledged.'
