Auckland Airport has made it into the finals of the coveted 2016 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) Awards in the Energy Management category.

The EECA Awards celebrate excellence and innovation in energy efficiency or renewable energy. Martin Fryer, Auckland Airport's sustainability manager, says the Airport's entry in the Energy Management category focused on the drive of the company to reach ambitious energy management goals.

'The elements that set our energy management programme apart from that of other large corporates is our setting of ambitious targets and the continual revision and development of these targets as we achieve them,' says Martin.

'We are also very lucky at Auckland Airport to have strong management-level support which has enabled the programme to deliver energy savings of more than 9,000,000 kilowatt-hour worth $667,000 since 2012.'

Martin says it is these reasons that contribute to Auckland Airport having arguably the leading energy management programme of all airport organisations within Australasia.

'Our energy management programme has also led to a great improvement in the environmental conditions at the airport. Within our energy management programme we completed a lighting project which resulted in improved light levels, increased lighting uniformity and reduced glare as a result of modern lighting optics.'

'We also now have less particulates in the air and better control of air temperature within the terminals due to an improved air handling filtration system.'
The Award winners will be announced on the 18 May at an event held at Queens Wharf in Auckland.
