What is the very first thing that comes to mind when you think of Pro Tools?

Here at Strongroom, we value Pro Tools as a versatile, reliable workhorse. It's been religiously used by our clients to make hit records time and time again.

How have you and Avid/Pro Tools grown together over the years?

One of Strongroom's core philosophies has always been to embrace new technology and changes in the way our clients want to work, and integrate that technology in the studios in the most musically creative way we can.

When Pro Tools was first being used in professional music studios, it was the norm to rent it in. Strongroom was one of the first studios in Europe to invest in large Pro Tools Mix systems with Apogee converters that were permanently installed in the studios alongside our Studer and MTR tape machines. As it became obvious Pro Tools was becoming the platform of choice we continued that investment, acquiring one the first Pro Tools HD systems in Europe.

Becoming known throughout the industry for our technical expertise in using and supporting Pro Tools, this developed into Strong Hire, a Pro Tools specific equipment rental division through which we invested in many more Pro Tools HD systems, rented to other music studios and audio post facilities throughout the UK. Pro Tools HDX with Avid HD converters are now standard in all our studios supported by a huge amount of Avid and third party plug-ins.

Why have you chosen to rely on Pro Tools?

Can a studio really rely on anything else? Pro Tools is the industry standard DAW for so many reasons and it's always the first choice here for recording or mixing. In addition to several HD Accel systems, we've also invested in three Pro Tools HDX rigs; the software works so seamlessly with the HD I/O interfaces and they all sound great.

What version are you currently using?

In all of our studios we currently have two build options for Pro Tools, one for 10 and the other for 11. We are also upgrading to 12 imminently.
