There were celebrations in Ashton under Lyne on Saturday as B&M opened its newest store in the region.

The brand new B&M Homestore with Garden Centre has been newly constructed by the retailer, creating an impressing 60 jobs for local people in the process.

Based on Snipe Retail Park, the store boasts an extensive DIY, decorating and furniture range - with the garden centre allow keen gardeners to stock up, just in time for the warmer months.

As part of B&M's Local Hero initiative, £250 worth of B&M vouchers were donated to the Marie Cure charity, as a thank you for their hard work in the area.

Marie Curie, one of Britain's most well-known charities, help care for people living with any terminal illness, and their families.

They offer expert care, guidance and support to help them get the most from the time they have left.

Also attending the opening day celebrations was the Mayor of Ashton under Lyne, Councillor Phillip Fitzpatrick, who was proud to be cutting the ribbon.

A spokesperson from B&M said: 'We've been feeling really positive about the creation of new jobs for local people and we hope customers are delighted with their new store.

'We've all been really excited to get the doors open and finally welcome our new customers through the doors today!'

Visitors to the store on opening day were able to experience more than just a fun shopping experience, with B&M's game show offering lucky customers the chance to win a number of amazing prizes.

Plus, the first few customers through the doors also received a golden ticket which gave them the chance to win B&M vouchers or even more prizes!
