There was a lot of excitement in Baglan Bay today as a new B&M Home Store was opened.

The latest addition to B&M's portfolio in the region comes as a huge boost to the local economy thanks to the creation of 60 jobs.

The new store features a large 10,065 square foot garden centre too.

Visitors to the store, formerly a Poundland on Baglan Bay Retail Park, will be able to browse a wide range of branded and own label goods, including toys, groceries, health & beauty and pet ranges, as well as an an extensive DIY, decorating and furniture range.

As part of the opening day celebrations, B&M colleagues invited local charity, The Paul Ridd Foundation, to be their VIP for the day.

The charity was created by Jayne Nicholls and Jonathan Ridd after their brother, Paul, who suffered with learning difficulties, died from not receiving the standard of care he needed in hospital. After his death in 2009, the siblings helped develop the Pathway Care Bundle for people with learning difficulties so they have a positive hospital experience.

Last year, they set up the charity to encourage more health services to implement the Pathway Care Bundle to avoid more families suffering the pain they did.

The charity received £250 worth of B&M vouchers as a thank you for taking part, while Mayor Janet Dudley, and her consort, David Evans, were also in attendance.

The store manager, Simon Rosser, said: 'The team from Paul Ridd Foundation really stood out for us as they go the extra mile for local people, we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work they do.

'We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.'

He also commented: 'The new team have been working really hard to get the store ready for opening day and we can't wait to get the doors open Saturday and show customers their new B&M Baglan Bay.'
