Houston, who became a member of BBVA Compass' Management Committee in 2015 after spending 25 years ascending through the ranks of Retail and Commercial Banking, was commended by the outlet for her work in career mentorship and female executive development, and innovation in the bank's Talent & Culture unit.

To be honored again among this group of prestigious women, each of whom has blazed trails in all areas of the banking industry, is a distinct honor and privilege

'To be honored again among this group of prestigious women, each of whom has blazed trails in all areas of the banking industry, is a distinct honor and privilege,' said Houston. 'At BBVA, our tagline is Creating Opportunities. Truly, banking has created opportunities for me in ways I couldn't imagine 25 years ago. I'm forever grateful.'

Houston focuses on ensuring that the same opportunities afforded to her are similarly passed to others, both inside and outside of BBVA Compass. She is actively involved in mentorship within the bank, sharing the knowledge she has gained over her years to develop the next generation of strong banking leaders. She has said that her goal is to grow a pipeline of smart, capable women leaders who are ready for executive level positions in the near term.

'BBVA Compass established a business resource group for women in leadership in 2016,' she said. 'With the group, the bank hopes to increase engagement for women in the company, and provide a forum for mentorship, sponsorship, professional development, and networking.'

Houston also regularly speaks at mentoring events, outside of the bank, including The Sister Accord, The YP Summit, and Propel where she speaks to youth, young girls, and women around the Nation about education, careers, personal development, and fulfilling one's full potential.

The sum of Houston's work has garnered her several recognitions, and in 2016/2017 she netted three more, including being named a Birmingham Women's Fund Smart Party Honoree, a member of the Women Who Shape the State of Alabama by al.com and one of Black Enterprise's Most Powerful Women in Business.

Ms. Houston attributes much of her success to a willingness to be a servant leader, one who inspires others by tapping into the human need of all people to feel welcomed, valued, heard, and respected in the workplace.

My goal is to model what it looks like to commit to excellence in the workplace…

'As Chief Talent & Culture Executive, I'm responsible for the cultural DNA of our organization, helping define what we believe and how we should behave,' she said. 'My goal is to model what it looks like to commit to excellence in the workplace as we serve our clients, our colleagues, and inspire the BBVA Compass team to even greater success.'
