Restaurants are increasingly turning to the digital economy to expand their business models. Technological services like social networks, online orders and home delivery are changing the way restaurants engage with customers. In fact, 65% of establishments plan to implement technological innovations due to the changes taking place in the sector, according to an American Express survey covered by Expansión.

In social networks, 31% of survey respondents say they have written a review or posted about their experience in restaurants. These figures jump to 72% for millennials, who primarily use Facebook (86%) and Instagram (46%) to share their opinions.

Online orders currently represent a significant portion of this sector's business. Some 43% of survey respondents say they have ordered food to go or for delivery on websites or mobile apps. Again, it's the millennials who are leading the way in this trend with 62%, following by the baby boomers with 28%.
