Bank Mandiri Extends Rp 10.94 Trillion in Loans to Finance New Toll-Road Segments

Jakarta, 21 July 2014 - Bank Mandiri provided loans worth Rp 10.94 trillion to help finance the construction of new toll-road (expressway) segments up until the end of June. Of this amount, Rp 4.96 trillion was for the construction of four segments in Greater Jakarta, Rp 1.48 trillion for 2 segments in West Java and Banten, Rp 1.84 trillion for a segment in Central Java, Rp 1.17 trillion for two segments in East Java, and Rp 445 billion for the trans-ocean elevated expressway in Bali.

Bank Mandiri CEO Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that the loans to the toll-road sector were a manifestation of the Bank's commitment to supporting infrastructure development.

"Infrastructure is a key component in driving the sustainable growth of the national economy. For that reason, we are determined to expand our role in infrastructure development, which includes helping finance the construction of new expressways," Budi explained. He said that expressways significantly accelerated the flow of goods and services so that trade could be conducted more effectively and efficiently due to faster delivery times. As a result, the number of economic transactions conducted could be increased dramatically.

One of the projects in which Bank Mandiri was involved in was a Rp 2.149 trillion syndicated loan with Bank DKI for the construction of the Jakarta Outer Ring Road West 2 (JORR W2) segment by PT Marga Lingkar Jakarta (MLJ). Bank Mandiri's share of the loan amounted to Rp 1.4 trillion while Bank DKI provided Rp 150 billion.

The non-revolving loan, which has a tenor of 15 years and grace period of 4 years, was used to finance the construction of the 3.45 km Kebun Jeruk - Joglo segment, and the 4.42 km Joglo-Ulujami segment. The two segments are now open to traffic after being officially inaugurated by Minister of Public Works Djoko Kirmanto, Monday (21/7). The ceremony was witnessed by Bank Mandiri CEO Budi Sadikin and Bank DKI CEO Eko Budiwiyono.

To speed up the toll-payment process on the JORR W2 segment, which is managed by PT Marga Lingkar Jakarta (MLJ), drivers can use Bank Mandiri e-money cards to pay their tolls. As of the end of June, Bank Mandiri has some 4 million e-money cards in circulation, which were used to conduct 9.6 million toll payment transactions worth Rp 61 billion.

Besides being accepted for payment purposes on 14 toll roads, Bank Mandiri e-money cards can also be used to pay for parking, buy Transjakarta, Trans Jogaja and Batik Solo Trans tickets, and to buy fuel and conduct purchases in restaurants, retail outlets and leisure arenas.

"We hope that through the provision of loans for toll-road construction and the provision of e-money toll payment facilities, the movement of people, goods and services will be made easier," Budi said.
