This programme will see Barclays invest not only money, but colleagues' time and expertise in helping social enterprises develop and grow, many of which will support young people in disadvantaged communities.

Kathleen Britain, Head of UK Community Investment.

We have joined forces with the Big Issue Invest Corporate Social Venturing (CSV) Challenge, in an effort to support the next generation of UK social enterprises working in areas such as education and homelessness. As the main corporate sponsor of the initiative, we have provided funding that will enable investment grants of up to £50,000 to be made to ten businesses selected as challenge winners. Our employees will be among volunteers providing business support and intensive coaching to the 20 social enterprises shortlisted, in addition to taking part in the judging panel to select the strongest entries.

Big Issue Invest, the social investment arm of The Big Issue, backs sustainable social enterprises, charities and ventures that help tackle poverty and inequality. Their CSV programme supports social enterprises that can deliver both social and financial returns.

"Our partnership with Big Issue Invest is an important part of Barclays' broader commitment to impact five million young futures by 2015," said Kathleen Britain, Head of UK Community Investment. "This programme will see Barclays invest not only money, but colleagues' time and expertise in helping social enterprises develop and grow, many of which will support young people in disadvantaged communities."

Kathleen added: "The CSV programme will help support a talented pool of people in developing the skills they need to fulfill their potential while adding real and significant value to society."
