Mr. Mecane joins Barclays to assist in the development of the firm's Equities and Credit Products electronic franchise; appointment follows that of Christine Sandler earlier this year to the firm's Equities business
Barclays today announced that Joseph M. Mecane has joined the firm as a Managing Director in the Electronic Equities and Credit Products business. Mr. Mecane will work with senior leaders across the firm to assist in the development of the firm's already well-established electronic product offering, with a particular focus on the equities and credit markets. In this new role, he will report to Bill White, Head of Electronic Equities and Credit Products.
Mr. Mecane has an exceptionally strong understanding of market structure and of the development of electronic markets, gained through more than a dozen years of holding senior roles at exchanges and sell-side firms, as well as through working closely with buy-side firms. Most recently, he was an Executive Vice President and Head of US Equities for New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) at IntercontinentalExchange Group. He joined NYSE in 2008, having previously worked for four years at UBS Investment Bank as a Managing Director in that company's Equities business.
The appointment of Mr. Mecane follows that of Christine Sandler who joined Barclays in July this year as a Managing Director and Head of Equities Client Origination in the Americas. In this role, Ms. Sandler works to deliver the full suite of equities execution products to new and existing clients, with a focus on electronic products. Ms. Sandler previously worked at NYSE Euronext, where she was responsible for all aspects of the company's sales and marketing efforts. Prior to that, she was Managing Director, Head of US Electronic Sales for Merrill Lynch, and Managing Director, Head of Sales at Wave Securities and Archipelago, LLC. Ms. Sandler is based in New York, and reports to David Siffringer, Head of Equities Distribution, Americas.
"The capital markets continue to evolve towards a more electronic structure as the industry sees the potential benefits of increased liquidity and transparency, tighter spreads, and reduced transaction costs. Barclays has been at the forefront of those developments for many years," said Joe Corcoran, Head of Equities and Credit Products. "Joe's and Christine's leadership and experience will further accelerate our work to provide clients with an industry leading electronic product offering across our businesses that combines the benefits of both our high- and low-touch expertise."
Barclays' Equities and Credit products business incorporates Equities, Credit, Securitized Products and Municipals sales and trading.
