Seoul, Republic of Korea, 14 October 2015 - Barco, a global leader in digital cinema technology, is proud to announce the installation of the first flagship laser projector in the Republic of Korea. Lotte Cinema, one of the country's major multiplexes, has equipped its auditorium with Barco's ultra-bright 6P laser cinema projector for premium screen (DP4K-60L). With this investment, Lotte Cinema further expands its premium auditorium offering with increased picture quality, reliability and improved operating efficiency.

Lotte Cinema operates about 900 screens in three nations - the Republic of Korea, Vietnam and China - and is one of the fastest-growing cinema exhibitors in the APAC region. To create the best possible movie experience, Lotte Cinema recently launched its own premium auditorium brand, Super Plex, which features over 22-meter wide screen, immersive 3D sound system with premium speaker and a brighter 3D system with 2.4 gain silver screen.

Premium projector for premium auditorium
To ensure that SuperPlex can differentiate itself in terms of picture quality as well, Lotte Cinema decided to look into the possibilities of laser technology. At the CinemaCon trade fair in Las Vegas (US), the cinema chain discovered Barco's DP4K-60L; a top-of-the-line laser cinema projector that brings supreme brightness levels and cutting-edge image quality to large screens. The combination of exceptional image quality, simplified operations and reduced operating expenses convinced Lotte Cinema to make the switch to laser projection.

First in Korea
Prior to its final decision, Lotte Cinema examined and tested the features of Barco's DP4K-60L in various circumstances: on different screen sizes, in a 3D configuration and with Polarizing 3D on silver screen.

'Creating a big screen is not so difficult,' comments Cha Woncheon, CEO of Lotte Cinema. 'The key is to provide the sound and image quality that suits such a screen. We thoroughly tested Barco's DP4K-60L for more than two months and are now convinced that Barco laser projection will be the real game-changer for premium cinema.'

Presenting a premium moviegoing experience
'We are pleased to expand our relationship with Lotte Cinema,' says Stijn Henderickx, VP Digital Cinema at Barco. 'We believe that our laser flagship projector family is the perfect complement to Lotte's upscale cinema concept and are excited that Lotte has made this strategic technology choice in favor of Barco after an extensive testing period.'
