Barco in Brazil: the Road to Rio

Barco brings decades of experience in high-resolution visualization for virtual reality applications, offering a wide portfolio of immersive solutions ranging from 3D stereo projectors to high-resolution stereoscopic display walls.

Tecgraf, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro is the Computer Graphics Research and Development Lab of the PUCRio University located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since its start-up in 1985, the lab has successfully developed innovative software products in the field of geophysics, geology, geomechanics, marine facilities and the environment, often for renowned industrial customers. As Tecgraf's main focus is on computer graphics, simple and clear data visualization is key for the researchers to gain thorough insights into their projects and collaborate efficiently. Barco's three-sided (+ floor) iSpace featuring three Galaxy NH-12 projectors and one ultra-high resolution LX-5 projector proved to provide the perfect simulation solution.

Petrobras Research Centres hasinvested in the latest visualization solutions to develop research into improvements in existing energy processes and support the search for renewable energy sources. Today the center boasts four large shared visualization rooms and immersive environments for collaborative working with large screens and very high-resolution projections, which make Petrobras' visualization work more precise, agile and effective. Several collaborative environments feature Barco F32 series projectors offering WUXGA resolution and reliable DLP technology, designed specifically for very demanding graphic applications in which a large amount of computer-generated image detail needs to be rendered at very high resolution.

OGX Petroleo e Gasis Brazil's largest private sector oil and gas company. While engaging in the highly critical search for oil, companies like OGX process a huge amount of seismic data relating to the sedimentary basins in which they hope to operate. OGX Petróleo e Gás installed a state-of-the-art virtual reality room where staff meet to interpret this information. Barco's MegaCADWall system offers them a razor-sharp 3D image of the ocean bed, that allows of optimum decision-making: to drill or not to drill?
