• BASF's Basotect® provides a conducive environment for worship and meditation in prayer hall

  • Basotect's unique combination of properties most suitable for one of the largest concrete domes in India

BASF's high sound absorbent foam Basotect® lines the ceiling of one of the largest concrete domes in India and provides a conducive environment for worship and meditation in prayer hall.

Uttar Pradesh, India - November 7, 2013 - BASF's high sound absorbent foam Basotect® now lines the ceiling of one of the largest concrete domes in India, built over a prayer hall at Mangarh in Uttar Pradesh, India which can hold 10,000 people. This is the first application of BASF's melamine resin foam in a prayer hall.

"Thanks to its open-cell foam structure, Basotect® effectively absorbs reverberations caused by multiple reflections of sound on hard surfaces. Hence, it will provide devotees with a more comfortable acoustic experience which facilitates optimized concentration and calm meditation" said Dr. Tobias Haber, Regional Head, Business Management Specialty Plastics, Performance Specialties Asia Pacific, BASF.

Basotect®, covered with blue fabric, has been applied to 6,000 square meters of the inner ceiling of the 82 meter diameter wide dome. "Basotect®'s unique combination of properties, including its high sound absorption, low weight and flame resistance, were also instrumental in making it the most suitable material for this project," explained Mr. Srijan Tripathi, Project Head at the Satsang Hall in Mangarh.

With a density of only 9 kg/m3, Basotect® is lighter than conventional sound insulating materials. Its low weight and flexibility also provide a greater design freedom and make the foam easy to mount and fix, without requiring major changes to existing architecture.
