BayWa AG plans to take over the Romanian agricultural trader Patberg International S.R.L., Bucharest, subject to approval by authorities. The acquisition is being carried out through the Dutch holding BayWa Agrar International B.V. The operations of the Romanian agricultural trader will continue as BayWa Agri Romania S.R.L. with headquarters in Bucharest. The move secures the BayWa Group access to this key procurement market for agricultural produce in Romania.

"The importance of the Danube region as a sourcing market for satisfying European demand for agricultural commodities continues to grow," Klaus Josef Lutz, Chief Executive Officer of BayWa AG, said.

Lutz added that with a presence in Romania, BayWa is improving its reach in southeastern Europe. He also noted that thanks to the direct collection or sourcing of grain and oilseed in Romania, the Group is enhancing its opportunities for international resale to producing customers. "The cultivation areas in Romania also harbour great growth potential in terms of productivity. We will be able to apply our core competence in Agricultural Trade in this regard," Lutz went on to say. He noted that BayWa aims to push ahead with additional investments in Romania concerning logistics and transshipment opportunities in order to optimally tap the potential of the entire Danube region.

BayWa Agri Romania employs some 20 people through the acquisition of agricultural trader Patberg International S.R.L.
