Black Hills Energy is beginning an upgrade of the natural gas distribution system in Fairbury. During the four-month project starting in September, more than eight miles of bare steel natural gas mains will be replaced with new polyethylene main. In addition, Black Hills Energy will partially or totally replace approximately 400 natural gas service lines to individual homes and businesses.

These improvements will increase system integrity so that Fairbury's 1,500 customers can continue to receive safe and reliable natural gas. The newer technology is more resistant to corrosion and adaptable to the changing needs of a community.

"We've provided safe, reliable natural gas service to Fairbury for more than 80 years," said Rick Schwartz, operations manager for Black Hills Energy. "This investment is part of our commitment to being a good partner to the community, providing energy for homes and businesses alike."

During the project, there will be minimal interruptions in natural gas service to homes and businesses in the area. Black Hills Energy will notify customers if there are interruptions to minimize the inconvenience. Some streets and alleys may be restricted or closed while the utility completes the work. Customers can contact Black Hills Energy at 402-239-0397 if they have any questions about this project.
