Companies of all sizes across industries depend on seamless teamwork for success, but many face challenges balancing users' productivity demands with IT's security requirements. Leveraging Groups to quickly and easily share appropriate files with team members is one way to streamline collaboration, and integrating a Single Sign-On (SSO) solution with Box makes provisioning much simpler. As customers use Box to manage a growing number of users, the need for more granular Group Management controls and SSO is clear.

Today we're excited to introduce a reimagined Groups experience -- featuring a new UI for enhanced productivity, an expanded Group Admin role with permission customization, and self-serve SSO to make provisioning individual users and groups around the right content easier than ever. Now, users and admins can securely manage collaboration together at scale.

The newly redesigned Groups homepage inside the Box Admin Console makes it dead simple to create, edit and manage Groups. The single, clean view of managed users makes sharing settings and restrictions on who can access which types of content more straightforward. Need to share onboarding documents with the Sales department but don't want to type out each individual Sales rep's name? Enter the department name, and you're done.

IT can save time by designating line of business owners or other team members as a Group Admin to help manage Group membership and content access as well as reporting. With new granularity for the Group Admin permissions, IT can limit Group Admins' power and maximize efficiency. For example, for those who have compliance concerns and don't want Group Admins to view users' folders or log into individual users' accounts, they can now restrict these abilities with a click.

Additionally, IT can get up and running fast by setting up SSO via their Admin Console. Self-serve SSO simplifies user and group access to multiple folders or files one at a time for larger-scale projects up to thousands of users. Users in a pre-defined Group instantly gain access to the files and folders they need.

  • Grant team members access to appropriate content quickly. Find intuitive navigation with the new Groups UI, designed to make it easier than ever to set up and manage groups within your enterprise.
  • Lighten IT's administrative load. We know you have a lot on your plate. Delegate Group administration tasks to line of business owners or project managers who often know the needs of their team best. Use the new Group Admin customization to securely govern content and account access.
  • Access Groups via the Box Platform. Groups and Group Admins can be created and managed via the Box API, so developers can easily manage Groups as part of their integrations and applications built with Box Platform.
  • Leverage Self-Serve SSO to Accelerate Setup and Rollout. Simplify group membership management and automate provisioning and de-provisioning of accounts with self-serve SSO accessible directly within your Admin Console. Box integrates with leading SSO providers, including PingFederate, Okta, and OneLogin.
