British Land has completed its refurbishment of Yalding House, the former BBC Radio studio on Great Portland Street, W1.

Yalding House was home to BBC Radio from the 1950s, with BBC Radio 1 broadcast from the building until 2012. British Land acquired the building in 2001 and secured planning consent to refurbish it when the BBC took the decision to exit the building in 2012.

The 29,000 sq ft building provides approximately 23,000 sq ft of contemporary office space and 6,000 sq ft of retail. The offices are spread across 6 floors, with the newly constructed upper level boasting a terrace and an additional 2,100 sq ft mezzanine floor. The refurbishment, led by architects BuckleyGrayYeoman, has retained much of the original character of the building with the brickwork and steel structure exposed on the office floors.

Reflecting Yalding House's musical heritage, the reception features an adjoining meeting and waiting room complete with turntable and an extensive record collection. The refurbishment has also seen the building's basement, formerly home to the BBC's Central Music Library of over a million vinyl records, repurposed as a bicycle workshop and storage area.

Yalding House is located in the heart of Fitzrovia, minutes from Oxford Circus, Great Portland Street and Regent's Park stations. The office space is available floor-by-floor and British Land is guiding a late £70s rent for a typical floor, with a premium required on the upper levels.

Alex Colvin, Leasing Director at British Land, said: 'Yalding House has been an exciting project for us. By retaining the original character of the building, and referencing its rich heritage throughout, we have created a unique space which combines authenticity with modern functionality. We expect Yalding House to appeal to a broad mix of occupiers, but particularly to creative and technology orientated businesses for whom the flexibility of the workspace and the distinctive character of the building will be attractive.'
