Cardno is working on a project that aims to ensure an agreed level of continued water service to New Zealand's Wellington region in the event of a major earthquake.

The region is in a high-risk location for earthquakes, and a major event would severely damage water supply pipelines
and treatment plants, resulting in a supply shortage.

Led by Wellington Water, the Water Supply Resilience Project will assess current levels of resilience in the water
supply networks.

Looking to international best practice, improvement options will then be costed and discussed with local councils to reach agreement on a level of service that is affordable and achievable.
