Green Group in partnership with Carrefour Romania have launched in Bucharest, for the first time, two intelligent waste collection machines dedicated to consumers, a system named SIGUREC.

The stations are placed in the parking lots of Carrefour Baneasa and Carrefour Vitantis. The people in Bucharest will be able to recycle 10 types of waste materials: PETs, aluminum cans, glass recipients, electric and electronic equipment, batteries, paper, plastic sheets, polystyrene containers and various types of plastic packaging (hygiene and product packaging, shampoo packaging etc.). The recyclable materials and brought directly and surely to the recycling facilities in Romania.

Green Group and Carrefour offer to the users of the SIGUREC systems rewards in the form of shopping vouchers available in the Carrefour Baneasa and Vitantis hypermarkets. For example, for a freezer, consumers will receive a coupon up to 80 lei, depending on its weight. Likewise, the value of a PET is 5 bani, an aluminum can is 3 bani, a kg of paper or cardboard is 11 bani and a glass bottle is 1 ban. All values are returned in the form of discount coupons to purchase, on the basis of the amount collected.

"The action is part of a wider project first started in the city of Buzău back in 2013. Since the project's implementation, we have collected through this system 450,000 kg of PETs and aluminum cans and approximately 500 tons of WEEEs (waste Electrical and electronic equipment).

Together with our strategic partner, Carrefour Romania, we are expecting that the machines in Bucharest will bring even better results, bringing approximately12 tones of PETs, 10 tons of glass bottles, 100 tons of WEEE and 200 tons of paper in the first 6 months of operation", has stated Constantin Damov, Co-founder of Green Group.

" Fighting against pollution and the waste of natural resources is part of Carrefour's commitment to a sustainable development in Romania. We are glad that through our collaboration with Green Group we offer Romanians the chance to fight alongside us for the protection of the environment and the building of new nature friendly consumers habits. We wish for a healthy environment, since this is essential for a better life for our customers and the communities in which we operate" has stated Andreea Mihai, Marketing Director at Carrefour Romania.

At the same time, the SIGUREC waste collection machines give users the ability to actively support a series of social causes. Thus, the users of SIGUREC can choose to transfer the value of the coupon to the HOSPICE Casa Speranței Association (HOSPICE House of Hope), the most important organization in Romania that offers specialized nursing services to people suffering from diseases in terminal stages or that limit the life span.

Through the partnership between Green Group and Carrefour Romania, SIGUREC intelligent collection containers will be placed in every city were Carrefour hypermarkets are present, by the start of 2015.

These waste collection projects are part of the Voluntary Agreement signed between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Green Group, Ecopaper Zărnești SA, Romcarbon SA and the Association of Large Commercial Networks in Romania (AMRCR), and are intended to facilitate the collection and recycling of waste from consumers and decrease the amount of waste going to landfills.
