  • Paulaner's ultramodern brewery technology at its new production site in Munich-Langwied will rest on industrial floor slabs of CEMEX specialty concrete tailored to meet exacting structural requirements

CEMEX has been tasked with supplying 20,000 m3 of specialty ready-mix concrete for the floor slabs of Paulaner's brand new production facility featuring ultra-modern brewing technology in Germany. Paulaner beer is one of the top 10 best-selling German beer brands and has been based in Munich since its founding in 1634.

The high storage tanks place an enormous weight on the floor plates, so CEMEX developed the best ready-mix solution for the customer's needs: an innovative ready-mix concrete with combination reinforcement using high-performance steel fibres. "It was necessary to design the floor plate as a combination reinforcement due to the high restraint stress that the weight of the storage tanks places on the structural element," said Michael Kempfle, CEMEX Quality Control Manager. The largest and most technically complex of the industrial floor slabs was 75 cm thick, took 37 hours to complete and required specially-provided long-distance conveyors.

"It was a real logistical challenge," said CEMEX Commercial Manager Uwe Lange, noting that at some points 25 ready-mixers were simultaneously in use and the conveyors measured up to 70 meters. Since it was a specialty steel fibre-reinforced concrete, there was an extensive need for coordination between the steel fibre producer and CEMEX's quality control team at the ready-mix plant. Throughout the process, CEMEX engineers ensured the high quality of the concrete delivered to the customer, and the sales team was always at hand to provide superior customer service.
