Chorus advisory | Weather impact on telecommunications services

Chorus' copper and fibre networks are largely operating as usual in most parts of New Zealand despite the weather. The back-up batteries within the street cabinets are maintaining phone and broadband services for the majority of customers.

As at 5.30pm today there are 23 sites on the West Coast, Nelson and Dunedin without mains power and running on batteries. Three sites on the West Coast are without power and out-of-service, this is impacting services to around 80 homes.

Technicians are prioritising medical escalations as they are raised by retail phone and broadband providers. Multiple road closures and access restrictions are in place and restricting Chorus' ability to get generators to affected locations.
