unINDIAN, the Australian Indian romantic comedy supported by Cochlear Limited, is now on general release in more than 60 cinemas across Australia.

The film stars Cochlear's Global Hearing Ambassador, and international cricket legend, Brett Lee, in his first leading role as an actor. Scenes were filmed at Cochlear's headquarters in Sydney.

Brett plays 'Aussie English' teacher Will, who falls for beautiful single mum Meera, played by acclaimed Indian actress Tannishtha Chatterjee.

'Meera is an independent woman and we wanted her to have a great job. She is also someone who is socially responsible and that's how the idea came about that she should be a senior executive at Cochlear. What Cochlear implants do for people is really amazing. It's almost giving them a new life,' said Tannishtha Chatterjee.

Brett said 'One of the great things about this movie is that we can spread awareness and educate people about hearing loss. Adults don't need to go through life struggling with hearing loss. I want to encourage anyone with a hearing loss to seek help.'

Cochlear co-hosted the film's Melbourne premiere on Friday 9 October with Perth mum and Cochlear implant recipient, Jane Goodfellow, interviewing the film's cast and crew on the red carpet. Jane was an extra and her Cochlear implants were prominently featured in the film.

'Our partnership with Cochlear for unINDIAN goes beyond commercial aspects,' Producer and Director of unINDIAN, Anupam Sharma said. 'Hearing for the first time with aides like Cochlear implant is a miracle for hearing impaired people, and it is an honour for me and the film to raise awareness of such miracles through the film and its story line.'

'Cochlear is proud to be involved with the film and it helps to draw attention to the impact of hearing loss, and the technologies that can help restore hearing for millions of people worldwide,' said Chris Smith, CEO of Cochlear.

'360 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss. As the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, Cochlear is dedicated to bringing the gift of sound to people with moderate to profound hearing loss. We have helped over 400,000 people of all ages live full and active lives by reconnecting them with family, friends and community.'
