About 130 customers, partners, media, employees and invited guests from the Bay Area and beyond came together yesterday in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of COMET Group's Lab One. The working Lab and testing environment is now available to many leading Silicon Valley businesses - acting as a key resource for a variety of testing and inspection services, as well as for opportunities to collaborate with Comet Group's industry experts, who will be now be available for consultation, brainstorming and problem solving.

'The Model of this type of facility covers many types of applications, said Frank Hochstenbach, VP New Business Development for VDL Enabling Technologies Group. 'This allows for larger corporations as well as startups to take advantage of these novel technologies.'

San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo was on hand for the official ribbon cutting ceremony and expressed appreciation for this commitment to the region by stating, 'This type of offering is essential here in Silicon Valley and we are so grateful that you have chosen San Jose as the location to open this Lab.'

Ajit Manocha, President & CEO of Semi, Craig Arcuri, a Senior Manufacturing Executive and Bill Bader, President & CEO, iNEMI participated in a roundtable discussion led by Trevor Galbraith, Editor-in-Chief, Global SMT & Packaging, where they discussed the future of x-ray testing, plasma applications, additional industries for ebeam as well as how companies can best to use Lab One.

'Speed and agility are more important than ever given that companies' innovation cycles get shorter and shorter,' said Paul Smith, General Manager for Lab One. 'Lab One provides fast and easy access to our technologists and to our solutions, RF power, x-ray and ebeam.' Also Shannon Hart, SVP of Global Operations for Mattson Technology Inc. expressed excitement for the commitment to the region and Comet Group's expansion by saying, 'It will be great to have close collaboration between engineering and development teams to help speed up the product development process.'
