It's true that the SPMR's largest System had already served 5.4 million people at the peak of the water crisis, but this month it returned already to 7.4 million residents. This one-million increase confirms the System's progressive replenishment and the end of water crisis. The System, though, still serves less residents than prior the crisis, with a production of 31.7 m³/s and serving 8.8 million people. Today, the System produces 23 m³/s as authorized by Government Agencies: ANA (National Water Agency) and DAEE (State Water and Electric Energy Department). And the water inflow, which reached below 4 m³/s in October of 2014, is now at 23.3 m³/s

If we consider the Bonus of March (see the chart below), which is the last one calculated after the bonus cancellation by Regulatory Agency (Arsesp), the ratio of the population to the rational use of water remained practically stable at 78% in March. However, considering 78% that reduced water consumption in March, 43% received the bonus indeed, while the remaining 35% reduced consumption, but not enough to get a rebate on the bill. If we consider all customers that received bonus in March, 35% reduced their consumption by more than 20% (staying in the bonus range of 30%), 3% reduced their use between 15% and 20% (bonus range of 20%) and the remaining 5% reduced between 10% and 15% with a rebate of 10%.

The ratio of customers with consumption increase had a slight decrease from 23% to 22% in March, with 14% of surcharged customers, one percent below the previous month. The remaining percentage was not surcharged for having a consumption below 10 thousand liters (264,2 gallons) per month.

This was the last month for Sabesp's Bonus Program. It started on February, 1st, 2014, for residents served by the Cantareira System.

Paying it cheaper - As of May, 1st, Sabesp will no longer give rebates and apply surcharges to customers at SPRM. It means that, starting from April, 1st, customers who reduce or increase their consumption will not pay surcharges neither receive a bonus on their bills which will mature in May. Yet, it does not mean that customers have no means for lowering their bills. Once there's a conscious use of water, it is possible to pay less.

The tariff Structure always valued the customer who reduces his/her consumption. It means that the lower the consumption is, the cheaper will that cubic meter be, once the structure is progressive.

For instance, if we only consider the water charge for regular residential customer that consumes up to 10m³, he/she will pay R$20.64, or R$ 2.06 per cubic meter; for a consumption between 11m³ and 20m³ the cubic meter it will be R$ 3.23 per cubic meter; and for consumption above 21 m³, it will set a R$ 8.07 for each cubic meter. Therefore, if a customer reduces his/her consumption reference of 24 m³ before the crisis to 19m³ after it, he left the range of a cubic meter value of R$ 8.07 to a new 'unit' value of R$ 3.23. It means, he will pay less than the previous range, reducing his/her consumption by 20% with an almost 50% discount on the bill.

'It proves that the Company always respected the customer who reduces consumption. Therefore, for the ones who don't quit on getting rebates on the water bill, it's essential to have a responsible water consume', explains the Customer Relationship Manager, Samanta Tavares de Souza.
