For buyers in the capital thinking of starting a family, a home in a well-connected outer borough can provide the perfect family-friendly alternative to a move to the country. Native north Londoner Amanda Lim, and her husband Charles Talbot, were keen to find a family home they could grow into, without sacrificing the convenience of living in the city. The newlywed couple recently moved into a stylish three-bedroom townhouse at The Mount, Countryside's new homes development in Mill Hill, NW7, that offers them the perfect balance between city and country.

The Mount is situated in one of the most desirable areas of north London, within the popular Millbrook Park neighbourhood. Set in an elevated position with sweeping views, the elegant townhouses offer scenic views from private terraces, communal green areas, landscaped courtyards and two new parks.

Amanda says: 'The moment we saw the townhouse, we knew we had to move - and put our house on the market that same week. We'd been living in a three-bedroom, semi-detached house in East Finchley, and had been looking for some time, hoping to find something which captured our imagination. We recently got married, and had begun plans to renovate our existing property. While we loved our house and the plans we had, the design, layout and positioning of the townhouse at The Mount was of such high quality, there really wasn't any comparison.'

She continues: 'After getting married in the summer, the opportunity to live in a family-friendly environment with plenty of room for growth was important to us. Although, we had previously driven by Millbrook Park, and a few other developments, we had no idea that our dream home was in the centre of it all, waiting to be discovered. We both work long hours in the City and one of the most important factors for us was to come home and feel like we were in a luxurious retreat with a hotel-quality feel and facilities.'

Amanda said, 'The quality reminded me of a five star hotel and the four-storey layout gives us multiple outdoor spaces on different levels, which is unusual, and means you always feel close to the garden and fresh air. Our roof terrace at the very top of the house, leading off the master bedroom, is really special, with fantastic views of London and Hertfordshire. Whether it's long relaxing evenings in the summer or enjoying fireworks night from the perfect vantage point, it's something no other house we've seen offers. But what I really like about the property is that because we are located on a hill high up you get that extra bit of daylight as you go up the property, which the floor to ceiling windows take perfect advantage of.'

Laid out over four floors, the elegant townhouses feature light and airy open-plan living areas, generous master suites, an integrated garage and private outdoor spaces such as gardens, balconies and terraces. All of the townhouses boast an excellent specification, including modern kitchens with white gloss quartz surfaces and fully integrated appliances, contemporary bathrooms, and flooring included throughout. A range of energy saving and eco features make the homes as environmentally sustainable and economical, as they are luxurious.

Amanda comments: 'It's been lovely being able to move in and have brand new appliances and a full welcome package waiting for us, so we can start using the house immediately. We have three ovens, every bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and the heat recovery and solar panels keep the energy costs small for such a big space. We feel very lucky, and are really enjoying our new home; discovering new things about it all the time.'

The Mount boasts an enviable position, with a full range of high street shops and restaurants at Mill Hill Broadway, only two miles away. Brent Cross Shopping Centre is less than four miles away from The Mount and offers an extensive shopping experience. For travelling further afield, The Mount is also conveniently located for travel by car, close to the M1, M25, A1 and North Circular, while Luton Airport is just half an hour drive away.

Charles says, 'It feels like we're on the cusp of the countryside, with lots of nice walks and country pubs nearby, yet we're only a six- minute walk from Mill Hill East Underground Station [Zone 4] and a host of towns around north London for shops, cafes, entertainment and anything else we'd need'

He continues: 'Amanda works near Trafalgar Square as a recruitment consultant whilst I'm in the City, so being able to get into the central London quickly and easily is vital to us. However, we also wanted somewhere that would be the perfect environment for raising a family in the future. Our old house was right on a main road, whereas now were in a such a family-friendly neighbourhood with so much green open space around the development. We're also right around the corner from a Waitrose, which is very convenient!'
